Breaking Down Expectations, Ryan's Story
Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. -Isaiah 41:10
This summer was “wicked awesome.” For 9 weeks, I was in an amazing community of people learning more about and sharing the good news of the Gospel every day on a Cru Summer Mission in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire. It was nothing short of transformative, but it was not easy. God spent the summer breaking down expectations that I didn’t think I had and working through the fear brought through those expectations. In this, my faith in Christ grew tremendously.
Looking back to and before the mission, I can honestly say that this is one of the best, hardest, and most growing summers of my life. Praise God! I learned more about the love that comes with the surrender. I got to share that love with those I met. Most importantly, I saw God in everything we did. I’m so thankful for all of the amazing people that I met through this trip. Those I lived with loved me and pointed me to Christ in every way. If you’re ever wondering if a mission trip (especially with Cru) is worth it, the answer is absolutely.
My growth doesn’t stop here! I’m now entering my senior year at WVU and I’m keeping busy with my biochemistry major, the saxophone studio, giving tours, working with the Maniacs, and now I’ve joined the staff of Cru at WVU! I’m excited to see where God continues to work in my life, and I’m greatly anticipating what comes next! Walk in love and be blessed!
May the God of how fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. —Romans 15: 13
